Angelology

    • The study of Angels. This includes good and fallen angels, as well as satan and evil spirits

Anthropology

    • The study of man. This includes man’s origin & nature

Bibliology:

    • The Study of the Bible; Key Words in this doctrine are – Inspiration, Revelation, Illumination (see definitions below)

Christology

    • The study of Christ, His person, His work – Keywords include ‘Pre-existence’ ‘Incarnation’, ‘Exaltation’
    • It is often specifically used in reference to the nature of Jesus Christ – How the Divine and human relate in His person

Christophany

    • An appearance or Pre-Bethlehemic manifestation of Christ (An appearance of Christ in the Old Testament)

Demonology

    • The study of demons

The Discerning of Spirits

    • A Divine revelation of one’s senses (hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting, touching) into the spirit world.

Divers kinds of Tongues

The Gifts of Healings

    • A Divinely granted ability to bring healing to the human body.
    • Both ‘Gifts’ and ‘Healings’ are plural, indicating multiple healing gifts.

The Gifts of the Spirit

    • Commonly referred to as ‘gifts’ however are they Gifts or Manifestations?
    • 1 Corinthians 12 – Paul’s first use of the word ‘gifts’ in this passage, is actually in verse 4.
    • Notice however that in the next couple of verses he also talks about, ‘ministries’, ‘activities’ and ‘the manifestation of the Spirit’.
    • ‘Ministries’ or ‘administrations’ (KJV) are mentioned in reference to the Lord – Jesus (verse 5)
    • ‘Activities’ or ‘operations’ (KJV) are mentioned in reference to God – The Father (verse 6)
    • In reference to the Spirit, Paul uses ‘gifts’ (verse 4) and ‘manifestation’ (verse 7)
    • The word translated ‘gifts’ is ‘charisma’ meaning:
    • a (divine) gratuity, i.e. deliverance (from danger or passion); (specially), a (spiritual) endowment, i.e. (subjectively) religious qualification, or (objectively) miraculous faculty:–(free) gift.
    • The Word translated ‘manifestation’ is ‘phanerosis’ meaning:
    • exhibition, i.e. (figuratively) expression, (by extension) a bestowment:–manifestation.
    • Paul’s use of the words in this passage indicates they are collectively called ‘Manifestations’, while only some are specifically called ‘gifts’

Hamartiology

    • The study of the origin, nature, extent, result and penalty of sin

Hypostatic Union

    • The human nature & the Divine nature, each in its completeness, are organically and indissolubly united in the one unique Person of Jesus Christ
    • Definitions related to Jesus Christ: Christology

Incarnation

    • ‘Enfleshment’ – the assumption of humanity. The second person in the trinity assuming human form in the person of Jesus Christ who is completely God and man

Inspiration – Communication of truth

    • The Power of the Holy Spirit upon the minds and spirits of Holy men which qualified and enabled them to make an infallible record of Divine truth

Interpretation of Tongues

    • A Divinely inspired utterance in a known tongue which shows forth that which was spoken in an unknown tongue.
    • The interpretation, given by God, of what was said in tongues

Illumination – Understanding of truth

    • The Divine quickening of the human spirit & mind which enables us to understand that which has already been revealed; the teaching contained in the Bible

Pneumatology

    • The study of the person and work of the Holy Spirit. Special emphasis given to the Holy Spirit’s involvement in the world, in and through the life of the believer & in the church
    • Relates to: Names of Bible Doctrines

The Pre-existence of Christ:

    • Christ has always eternally existed with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit

‘…ology’

    • When a word ends in ‘…ology’, it means, ‘the study of’ a particular subject

Prophecy

    • A Divinely inspired utterance in a tongue known to the person speaking
    • Definitions of the Gifts (manifestations) of the Spirit and listed in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11
    • One of the 3 ‘Utterance’ Gifts / manifestations – These SAY something

Revelation – Discovery of Truth

    • Is the act of God by which He directly communicates to man truth not known before; truth that could not have been known before without Divine aid.
    • Matthew 16:13-17
    • Not head knowledge / intellectual, but from the heart, by the Hoy Spirit
    • Terms related to Revelation and Inspiration of the Word of God and Bibliology

Soteriology

    • The doctrine of salvation. This includes it’s nature, application and provision
    • Relates to: Names of Bible Doctrines

Theology

    • The Study of God. This doctrine includes His Nature, character, attributes & Names. The study of Biblical truths that pertain to God
    • Relates to: Names of Bible Doctrines

Theophany

    • An appearance or manifestation of God

Theopneustos

    • ‘God Breathed’ used in 2 Timothy 3:16 ‘ …given by inspiration of God…’
    • Terms related to Revelation and Inspiration of the Word of God and Bibliology

Therapeuology

    • (Gr – therapeao – Healing)
    • The study of Divine Healing. Includes the origin of sickness, healing is part of God’s redemptive plan, methods of ministering healing etc

Tongues

    • A Divinely inspired utterance by the Holy Spirit in languages / tongues never learned by the speaker, nor understood by the speaker (& mostly not by the hearer either)

The Word of Wisdom

    • A Divine revelation concerning certain facts in the mind of God that relate to His plans and purposes; dealing specifically with the future.

The Word of Knowledge

    • ‘Supernatural Revelation by the Holy Spirit concerning facts in the mind of God – facts relating to people, places or things in the past or present, that we need to know, but which we couldn’t know other than by Divine Revelation’
