The topic discussed here relates to physical healing or healing of the body, and the methods by which people can be healed.
Natural Methods of Being Healed
Everyone at some stage in their lives will need healing for their bodies, whether it is for illness, injuries, infections, diseases, abnormalities or anything that is an attack on one’s physical health.
God has created the body with its own inbuilt healing ability to carry out its own healing but, when this fails, He has provided us with people who are trained with medical skills to assist us.
However, often these methods fall short of totally curing the individual. There is a way that always works when applied accurately, which God has provided through His Word, the Bible.
Throughout the Old Testament, or Old Covenant, and the New Testament, or New Covenant, God has provided His way by which we can be totally healed. This is called divine healing, that which is from God or supernatural. He has provided for every need that we may have, all we have to do is to tap into this provision in His Word, the Bible.
Diving healing can take place in different ways and He will always meet us at the level we are at.
It is important to understand that healing is always the will of God. He takes pleasure in us being well. A look at the New Testament will reveal that Jesus healed all who came to Him and, since He is the same today as He was yesterday or then (Hebrews 13:8), He still continues to heal all who come to Him.
Methods of Receiving Divine Healing
I will briefly mention some of the ways God has provided for healing in His Word:
Gifts of Healings
1 Corinthians 12:9,11 NKJV
:9 To another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings, by the same Spirit.
:11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills
These gifts or manifestations of the Spirit operate by the sovereignty of God, or as He wills. In other words, the person with these gifts cannot always operate with the gifts of healing when he/she wants to, only when he/she is anointed to minister this way.
Faith is often still required here. Sometimes the Lord will initiate healing on His own when there is no faith. We don’t always know why.
However, you don’t have to wait for Him to move in this way. He has provided other methods for us to receive healing.
Calling for the Elders (or pastors) of the church to pray for you
:14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
:15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
Praying for One Another
:16 Confess your trespasses to one to another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
Faith is needed here as well.
Using the Name of Jesus
:23 And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My Name He will give you.
‘In that day’ includes the day in which we now live.
In Acts 3, we see Peter and John going up to the temple to pray. They saw a lame man begging and expecting to receive something from Peter and John. Peter said (verse 6-7) “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
Verse 16 says, ‘And His Name, through faith in His Name, has has made this man strong’.
The Laying on of Hands
Jesus said: “These signs will follow those who believe: In My Name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover”.
Believe the Word of God
Jesus tells us that: Whoever will say to this mountain (or any mountain in one’s life)”Be removed and be cast into the sea and will not doubt in his heart, but believe that those things he says will come to pass, he will have what he says.
When there is no one else to call upon, we can trust God and His Word. This is God’s best method for us, as we learn to appropriate the healing scriptures for ourselves. It requires consistent faith and learning to grow our faith. It requires us to constantly and consistently keep God’s Word before us.
Unless otherwise stated, all scriptures used are quoted from the New King James Version of the Bible.
