The Bible teaches we are to pray for our country, leaders and government. More than ever, Christians need to pray for their countries. Nations, politicians and governments need prayer.
2 Chronicles 7:14
‘If my people who are called by My Name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land.’
As Christians, we cannot forget the authority God has given us, and the influence we can have in our nation through prayer. If we fail to take our place, forces that seek to destroy our country and any Christian influence, will prevail.
The world seems to be in turmoil. There is anger and dissatisfaction with government. Politicians don’t seem to have the answers. However, we are not to be afraid of this, but it MUST stir Christians to pray for their country with greater commitment than ever before.
Affecting Your Country by Prayer
God shows in his Word that the condition of the nation rests with His people. Pray for your leaders, whether they represent your political belief or not. They need our prayers in order to operate in the wisdom of God. God can change their political positions if we pray and guide their decisions.
We can affect the spiritual climate of our nation through prayer and bring changes to our countries.
Praying for your country brings God’s influence into government.
Little Effort to Pray
Prayer meetings are often the least supported church meetings. Many don’t put in the time and commitment needed to pray. I believe that this is one of the major reasons that many churches are not growing. Some start to grow, but the growth gets stifled through problems arising.
Only strong prayer backing within a church can develop the spiritual strength a ministry needs to breakthrough in a nation.
Sometimes a group of people needs to arise who will meet and pray daily for the church, country and revival.
Occasional prayer is no enough to provide the backing that many churches need right now in order to move forward.

A Call to Pray
I want to call you all to prayer – for your nation, leaders and the churches.
If you can, find prayer partners to meet with regularly and pray. If no one wants to join you, begin to set aside regular time to pray, not just for your own life, but for the things I have referred to in this article.
Also, encourage other Christians to do the same – the more this spreads the better. If you can, arrive at church early each Sunday and pray for the church service that week.
I believe that God will honour us if we will obey His call to pray. Our churches will grow stronger. Strengthen the Christian influence within this nation through prayer and godliness will affect our nation. I also believe that God will honour the individuals who pray.
